Event Write-Up

By

October 24th — It was a great day for orienteering, just a hint of rain to keep the dust down. Um. Postponed. Try again.

October 31st — It was a beautiful fall day at Calero, sunny and clear after two previous days of rain. No, not that either.

Unfortunately, the weather was not on our side this year for the Calero event. This event was to have been more than the usual B-meet, with the Club Championships and a Trail-O course. However, forced to reschedule two successive weekends due to mud that prevented driving on trails for any reason, including the safety issue of picking up an injured runner, we finally decided to cancel the event for 2010. Lesson learned: schedule the 2011 event for September.

I would like to thank everyone who put in time on this event: Mark Rice, Toby Ferguson, and Tapio Karras (course design); Alex Finch (trail-o course design); Bob Cooley (map printing); Tony Pinkham (awards); Mikkel Conradi and Scott Novotny (course vetting).

I would also like to thank all the volunteers who would have helped out, if the event had been held: Rex Winterbottom, Pierre Delforge, Steve Haas, Dan Greene, Jeff Lanam, Evan Custer, Ev Beuerman, Jean Beuerman, Jim Fish, and Bjorn Widerstrom.

I would also like to thank Gavin Wyatt-Mair for letting me take the leftover water from Briones. Anybody need 63 gallons of water?
