BAOC COOL
Bay Area Orienteering Club California Outdoor Orienteering League
2014 Season
There will be a limited season this year, consisting of only these events:
There will be limited awards, but a couple of special awards for the top Varsity boy and top Varsity girl. Each will receive two tickets to Lorde at the Fox Theater in Oakland on March 27, 2014! A high school aged performer for a high school competition.
The following competition classes will be available:
- Elementary – White course
- Middle School – Yellow course
- High School JV – Orange course
- High School Varsity Girls – Brown course
- High School Varsity Boys – Green course
"Running up" is allowed, as well as "running down". For running down, you get half the points for each level down. For example, a 9th grader JV runs White and wins for 100 points. However, since the 9th grader is running two levels down, points awarded are 100 * (1/2) * (1/2) = 25 points.
There is no bonus for "running up". However, there are at least three reasons to do that:
- Â A middle-school student may compete on Varsity in order to try for the Lorde tickets.
- Â A student practicing for international competition may run Red or Blue for better practice.
- Â A middle school student may run Orange all season to be in better competitive shape for running Yellow at the Interscholastic (IS) Championships.
If there are two (or more) people in a class who get 100 points because one (or more) runs up, the fastest pace (fewest minutes per kilometer) wins the tie. Here's an example of how that can happen:
- A Varsity Boy runs Green (his normal course), and is the fastest student on Green, getting 100 points.
- Another Varsity Boy runs Red (running up), and is the fastest student on Red, also getting 100 points.
- Both have 100 points—the one with the faster pace wins the event.
