Location: Tahoe Area and Bear Valley
Event Director: - 650.793.8764

Day 5: Auburn Ski Club Training Center

Event Details

Course Setter: Steve Miller
Format: Point-to-point Motala
Starts: 1PM to 3PM (that's right, an afternoon event)
Special rules:

Map: This map was originally made for foot-O and was converted by Bob Cooley and Tony Pinkham for use with ski-O. This map uses 5-meter contours. Because this is a new ski-O map, no samples are available before the competition.
Embargoed areas: This is not a US Championship event, so there are no embargoed ski trails or ski areas before this event.

Venue Information

Resort web page: www.auburnskiclub.org
Elevations: Competitive area is between 7100 and 7200 feet in elevation.
Size of area used for trails: About 1 square kilometer — a small area with an intricate network of hilly trails.
Rentals: The Auburn Ski Club probably does not rent skis. If you need to rent skis, go to Sierra Nordic (Soda Springs), Pacos (Truckee), or any other ski store.
Lessons: The Auburn Ski Club probably does not offer beginning ski lessons except to club members.
Waxing: It is not known if this facility has a waxing bench for your use.

Lodging and Dining

See the Lodgings page for the Tahoe area. In general, the nearby lodgings (for Soda Springs) include the Boreal Inn, a couple of Royal Gorge lodges (not including the Wilderness lodge which burned down a few years ago), the Sierra Club hostel (Clair Tappan), and numerous cabins rented by local realty companies. Additional lodging can be found in Truckee (15-20 minutes away).

Do your grocery shopping in Auburn or Truckee, where large grocery stores abound. There is at least one small grocery store with a limited stock in Soda Springs.

For dining, there are a couple of restaurants in Soda Springs and many more in Truckee (especially the old town of Truckee).

Driving Directions

From I-80 (about 91 miles east of Sacramento or 10 miles west of Truckee), take the Boreal Ridge/Castle Peak off-ramp (Exit 176) just before Donner Summit. Go to the west end of the Boreal Ridge parking lot.

Check in and Registration will probably be in the A-frame building of the Auburn Ski Club Training Center.
