Tahoe Recreational &
Big Blue Adventure Series Training Event

Spooner Lake & Burton Creek
May 24-25, 2003

Contact: Evan Custer, 925-254-5628

There will be recreational white, yellow, and orange courses at the Tahoe 3 Day orienteering event on Saturday and Sunday, May 24th and 25th, 2003. In additional, there will be a special course designed for adventure racers on Sunday, May 25th. This course will be of intermediate navigational difficulty (that used in adventure races) but relatively long, about 6 to 7.5 km in length. It will be equivalent to a long orange course.

The Saturday May 24th courses will be held on Forest Service property west of highway 28 from Lake Tahoe-Nevada State Park at Spooner Lake. The Sunday May 25th courses will be held at Burton Creek State Park in Tahoe City, California.

No pre-registration is required. For the white and yellow courses, the entry fees are $6.00 per individual or first member in a group and $2.00 for each additional person in a group. Juniors are half price. The orange courses and AR training course is $8.00 for members and $12.00 for non-members. Different courses will be offered on Saturday and Sunday. Registration opens at 9:00 a.m., beginner's clinics are between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., and start times will be available from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. There will be a special adventure racing clinic on Sunday between 9:30 am and 10:30 am.

There will now be recreational white, yellow and orange courses available on Monday, May 26th, at Burton Creek State Park in Tahoe City. However, there will be limited hours. Registration will only be open from 9:00 to 10:00 am, and you must be at the start by 10:30 am. Courses will close at 12:30 pm.

The white and yellow courses will be "classic" distance, and the orange course will be a short format.

Originally, recreational courses were not going to be offered on Monday, because the event will be of the short course format, partly in an effort to make it easier for people to get a head start on the drive back to the Bay Area after the Memorial Day Weekend. However, it was decided to offer recreational courses, but only for a limited time frame in the morning.
