Jean Beuerman Remembered

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to let you know of the passing of Jean Beuerman last week.

For over 20 years, the first BAOC faces people saw were those of Jean and her husband Everett, who handled registration duties at most of our events. Jean's warmth, cheerfulness, and helpful attitude made for the best possible first impression of the club. Jean and Ev received the BAOC Service Award in 1997.

As a former board member and club president, I had the privilege of working with Jean and Ev, and their son Steve, for many years on the BAOC Board of Directors. All three brought common sense, attention to detail, and lively humor to our deliberations.

On a personal note, my wife Esther and I count the Beuermans among our friends. We spent much time together over the years, enjoying good food and wine, discussing their beloved Oakland Athletics and the idiosyncrasies of our fellow orienteers.

BAOC is a better, more friendly organization because of Jean. Our deepest condolences go out to Everett and Steve.
