2011 Sierra Ski-Orienteering Championships

Day 4 – Northstar-at-Tahoe Cross Country

Date: (Wed.) Feb. 2, 2011
Location: Truckee, CA
Event Director: - 650.793.8764
Course Setter: Donatas Ereminas
Type: Ski-O; Day 4 of the 2011 Sierra Ski-Orienteering Championships

Please note that fees and time limits apply, unless otherwise mentioned below. Events are typically not canceled due to bad weather.

Donatas Ereminas has finished his first BAOC White, Orange, Green, Red, and Blue ski-O courses with help from Carol Schick. I [Tony] got a peek at the Blue course, and very much liked it.

There has been some melting of snow, so there might be some map changes, and you should be prepared to possibly remove your skis for this event.

Course Specifications

             Optimal Straight

Remember: If you choose to ski off the groomed trails, you do so at your own risk. Read your map carefully before going off-trail. For most skiers, it is advantageous to go off-trail when the terrain is flat or slightly downhill.

Driving Directions

  1. From all points East and West, take Interstate 80 to Highway 267 (Exit 188B) just east of Truckee.
  2. Take Highway 267 in the direction of King's Beach for about 5.5 miles.
  3. Northstar Resort will be on your right (follow the orienteering signs from here).

Walk into the village and go to the Starbucks cafe for registration. From registration, you take the gondola to the middle of the mountain. From there, ski east to the cross country center, where you can leave anything that you do not want to race with (we do not take responsibility for your things, but will do our best to keep others out of your stuff). From the cross country center, there is about a 2-km uphill ski to the starts. Give yourself 60–90 minutes to check-in/register, and get to the Start. Add more time to walk from parking. Best to get there early.

There's a map here that shows the location of the event.
