Last Year's Event Evening Light-O Same Day Evening Social Event

Please note that fees and time limits apply, unless otherwise mentioned below. Events are typically not canceled due to bad weather.


This event will be held in conjunction with BAOC COOL event #10, and will be followed by an evening Light-O and social event in the Willow Glen area of San Jose.

This event will be at a city park. There will be unmapped holiday light decorations (and their associated guy wires) as an added attraction!

Schedule

9:00 AM – 12:00 noon: Registration
10:00 AM – 12:30 PM: Starts for all courses
1:30 PM: Courses closed, must be back even if you didn't finish your course.

Training

9:30 AM – 10:30 AM: Beginners clinics near Registration and Starts, as needed, every 10 to 15 minutes.

Registration

Normal fees apply for the first course of the day. However 2nd, 3rd, and 4th courses run by the same person or group will have no extra charge.

Punching

As always, we will be using electronic punching at this event, using SPORTident finger sticks. The following models are supported: SI-Card 5, SI-Card 6, SI-Card 8, and SI-Card 9. Finger sticks are available for rent at the event.

Courses

With a nod to the holiday season, we have more than the usual number of Christmas trees on the clue sheets, and there is a celestial theme to this Sunday's courses:

Course 1 – P is for Ptolemy
This is a shortish White course.
Course 2 – Cassiopeia, the constellation that looks like a "W"
This is an even shorter Yellow course.
Course 3 – Three Golden Rings
Be careful not to skip a control, since there are 24 of them!
Course 4 – Gemini, twin stars
A compass may assist in navigating these stars!

There is very little climb.

Driving Directions

To get to Vasona Lake, take highway 17 South from San Jose. Exit at Lark Avenue and turn left (east, over the highway at the light). At the first traffic light, turn right (south) onto Los Gatos Boulevard. Turn right again (west) at a traffic light onto Blossom Hill Road. After crossing over Highway 17 again, the park entrance will be on your right.

There is a $6 park fee per car, which you pay at a kiosk. The machine accepts credit cards.
