Table of contents

BAOC will host the Tahoe 3-Day "A" Meet on June 20-22, 2008. The three days will offer a sprint event, a middle-distance event, and a classic-distance event. All the events will be USOF Sanctioned "A" Meets with full age-group classes.

Join us in the stunning Lake Tahoe area to orienteer through the eminently runnable and friendly pine forests. The weather should be delightful at this time of year with temperatures in the 70's and only a very small chance of rain. The lake will be surrounded by snowcapped mountains. The days are long and the nights clear and star studded. More information will be periodically added to this web page—check back here for updates.

Sprint Event at Northstar Resort, near Truckee

Friday Afternoon, June 20

The forested area around the village at the Northstar Resort, near Truckee, is prime sprint territory. Quick decision making will be tested by the variety of the terrain and preponderance of features. No poison oak here, just beautiful ponderosa pine forests. The elevation is 6300 ft. Steve Gregg has revised the map that was made in 2000 by George Kirkov. Steve has many years of experience in designing sprint courses. This event will be part the U.S. Sprint Series. The maps will be printed at 1:5000.

See the Sprint Course Setter's Notes for more information.

Burton Creek State Park, near Tahoe City

Saturday & Sunday, June 21 & 22

Burton Creek State Park is a beautiful park near the lakeside. You will run through mature pine forest, meadows, and creeks. The 6400 ft. average elevation is too high for poison oak. The map was originally made in 2000 by George Kirkov, and has been extensively revised through the years. Dwight Freund will set middle-distance courses (70% of the classic length) for Saturday, and a classic-distance event for Sunday. Dwight has been designing courses for almost 20 years, including courses on this map. The maps will be printed at 1:10000.

Note that Saturday and Sunday are separate events—times will not be combined.

See the Saturday/Sunday Course Setter's Notes for more information.

Recreational Courses

There will be recreational courses on Saturday and Sunday for the beginner's White course, the advanced beginners Yellow course, and the intermediate Orange course. Recreational participants will register the morning of each event, and pay the normal BAOC prices. There will not be recreational courses on Friday.

Camping

Note: The list of campsite assignments was emailed to everyone on June 11. If you did not receive it, contact .

Please note that the camping option is not sponsored by BAOC. It is provided as an informal alternative for people to consider when making their lodging choice.

Many campers have signed up to camp at Donner Memorial State Park (http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=503), off Interstate 80 near Truckee. We have reserved 15 sites (as of May 27) for Friday and Saturday nights. We also have some sites for Thursday night if you want to come up and stay the night before the event. We can have 8 campers on each site. We plan to have a group campfire each night at one of the sites. The sites are near the swimming area. There are coin-operated showers, flush toilets, and lockers for food storage. Good shopping is in nearby Truckee. We probably can reserve more spaces if needed, but don't wait until the last minute!

Let know if you'd like to join us, and what nights. It's a beautiful area, and I'm sure that we'll enjoy the camping. Contact to reserve a space, or for more information on this campground or on other campgrounds in the area.
