Lake Elizabeth

Date: (Thu.) May. 17, 2007
Location: Fremont, CA
Event Director: - 510.681.6181
Course Setter: Rex Winterbottom
Type: C; Thursday evening sprint -- ATTENDANCE LIMITED TO 20

I talked to the City of Fremont and they are okay with us having a Sprint event this Thursday at their Central Park, which surrounds our Lake Elizabeth map, which hasn't gotten much use from our club. This will be the final qualifier for the club's 2007 Sprint Series.

The park is walking distance from the Fremont BART station (see below).

Starts will be from 6:00 to 8:00 (or until everybody who's signed up has started, whichever is earlier), and there will be a social option afterward nearby.

This is only a Sprint course, no other courses, and it's a qualifier for only our Sprint series, not for the USOF sprint series. It'll be barebones, regular control bags, pin punches, registration forms, and $10 fee for the course. I'll bring some frisbees, too.

There will be more event details coming soon. Like "the gathering spot" which I have yet to pick. It will be walkable from Fremont BART, can guarantee that. And there's ample car parking too.

We can have up to 20 participants. Guarantee your spot by emailing [email tag: include email address, member name, and position name, in that order, separated by commas] back or calling 510-681-6181. If you're not 100% sure, I'll put you on a "maybe" list. I'll be getting 20 maps printed to use for the event.

May 15 Update

Maps are currently reserved for:

George Minarik
Vladimir Gusiatnikov
Mark Prior
Andrejus Masalkovas
Steve Gregg
Ben Legg
Brad Wetmore

Terrain

Mostly open urban park with a moderate variety of features. There is a large lake in the center and many sports facilities.

Course

Sprint, about 2.5 to 3.0km, minimal climb, will be set to maximize the navigational challenge of the area. Route choices, changes of direction, use of barriers/obstacles.

Regular manual pin punches will be used with punch cards.

Last qualifier for seeding for Saturday's Sprint Champs, although you can go to that event, and still participate fully without having run 4 qualifiers. Not counting for USOF Sprint Series.

Equipment

Bring your own water, but there should be some in the park somewhere. Running shoes might be preferable to cleats, and shorts and a t-shirt should be fine.

Fee

$10 – we will use standard registration forms.

Starts

6:00 to 8:00, or whenever we give out the last assigned map.

Social Option

We'll determine the details at the event.

Driving Directions

From I-880, head East on Stevenson Blvd. After crossing Paseo Padre, make a right into the first entrance. Then make another right and look for a control bag.
