Course Setters' Notes Last Year's Event (http://www.baoc.org/results/r04/r040425.php) Self Registration
Joseph Grant County Park lies in a valley between Santa Clara Valley and Mount Hamilton. The park, which is moderately hilly, includes a mix of oak forest and large open areas, with plenty of topographic variety. At this time of the year, the hills are green and the wildflowers are out!
This Spring's event will feature the following courses in the part of the park that is south of Mt. Hamilton Road.
Course Length Climb Technical Physical
White 2.8 km 80 m Beginner Stroller-friendly Yellow 3.0 km 160 m Advanced Beginner A robust hike Orange 3.7 km 150 m Intermediate Tougher Long Orange 5.6 km 180 m Intermediate Tougher and longer Brown 4.6 km 250 m Advanced Challenging Green 5.2 km 280 m Advanced Very challenging Red 6.1 km 340 m Advanced Even more challenging Blue 7.4 km 420 m Advanced Long and very tough
The Long Orange course was designed for adventure racers wanting navigation practice. It's a long course that is on the same level of navigation as the Big Blue Adventure Races.
See the Course Setters' Notes for more information about the courses.
Bring your friends, family, and coworkers, and enjoy the day with us. Picnic tables and restrooms are near the registration area. There is camping with showers available in the park (the gates lock at sunset).
Registration will be open from 9:00 to noon. Short beginner's clinics will be given from 9:30 to 10:30. Starts will be available from 10:00 to 12:30.
This will be a good event for groups. Please let us know ahead of time if you are coming with a group of 8 or more. We want to be sure to have enough maps for your group.
Self-Registration Trial
Posted by Ev & Jean Beuerman
To all BAOC/GCO members who are advanced runners, and who own their own e-punch:
On Sunday, at the Joe Grant event, we are going to give self registration a trial run. Bring exact change or a check to place in the envelope, or stand in the normal registration line. The self-registration line may be longer than the normal one, however, since this process will be a trial run and it will be new to all of us.
This is a test! We welcome your comments and suggestions, as we hope to have the process in regular use starting on 1 June, concurrent with the rate changes from $8 to $10, and $2 to $5 for an additional person. More about self registration.
Driving Directions
Take the Alum Rock Road exit off I-680 in San Jose, and head for the hills (east). This exit is about one mile northeast of the 280/680/101 interchange. Continue on Alum Rock Road for about 2 miles, and turn right onto Mt. Hamilton Road. Go about 9 miles to the park entrance, which will be on your right. After paying the $5 park fee, go about 1/4 mile to the parking area designated by the O' signs.
