Fun courses from Matthias Kohler; great weather; fantastic turnout! A great conclusion to the six-event 2024 Summer Series. I hoped for and expected a very good crowd, but the numbers were amazing: about 265 people participated, up by 50 from the previous year. Thanks to everyone who returned their maps for re-use when we came close to running out.
The winners on all three courses had great times in this fast, relatively flat park. Kevin Cox finished first on the Beginner course, Steve Gregg got the honors on the Short course, and Yurii Konavalenko won the Long course (by a slim 5-second margin over Carl Hoel). All of the results are below, as well as the final Standings for the Summer Series.

We had a great turn out to close the 2024 Summer Series! Good weather and challenging courses, even on this park that is familiar to many of us. Thanks to event director Steve Haas and course setter Matthias Kohler. We had a big showing of beginners, and our volunteers handled them smoothly.

- In RouteGadget, you can enter your route manually or upload a GPS recording and adjust to fit our map. The following tips apply to the GPS method.
- RouteGadget Tip #1: After selecting your GPX file, make sure to adjust the time offset between starting your watch at the Start line and leaving the Start Triangle. The offset can have a significant impact on your route accuracy. For most local events, the offset should be set to 0 as we start from the triangle (assuming you started your watch exactly when you started).
- RouteGadget Tip #2: After uploading your GPS track to RouteGadget, you can create additional blue adjustment points by right-clicking your track. You can use these points to better align your route with the map, for example, along trails. You can delete extra adjustment points by right-clicking them.

2024 Summer Series Results
What a turnout! Preliminary numbers show more than 250 athletes started at Bedwell Bayfront — likely the highest single-day BAOC event attendance in half a dozen years or more! Thanks to everyone who came to the event, and especially the hardworking volunteers, chief amongst them our Course Setter Matthias Kohler and Event Director Steve Haas.
With the final event wrapped up, we can now reveal the final standings for the 2024 Summer Series. In the Short competition, the tussle at the top of the table came down to this very last event. In the end, Dennis Wildfogel beat out Steve Gregg by less than one hundred points. And in a very close battle for bronze, Werner Haag edged out Sheila Cotter by just nine points. Well done to all!
At the top of the Long standings we have Yurii Konovalenko who scored a perfect 4000 points. Incredible! Almost as incredible is François Léonard in the silver-medal position with a near perfect 3882. Rex Winterbottom rounded out the top three. Fabulous to see four women athletes in the top ten of the Long standings.
With a lot of new faces on Sunday, we did miss the years of birth of a handful. A list is given at the very bottom on these results. This extra data would not change the Standings in the top half of the tables. But if your name is on that last and you want an accurate score for the Bayfront Park event, get in touch with me. Likewise, to anyone who sees any errors or other anomalies in the scores that you want to discuss, send me email.
And with that, another exciting and successful BAOC Summer Series comes to an end. The BAOC leadership team hopes you enjoyed it as much as we did. If you have any suggestions for changes or improvements next year (e.g., format, timings, locations, etc.) please get in touch. We are currently putting together a tentative 2025 schedule of events, so now is the best time to influence that. Likewise, if you would like to volunteer at any event next year, please get in touch. It's a great way to give back to the club and boost your points at the same time!
So, for the last time this year, a huge thank you to the dozens and dozens of volunteers who made the series such a success, and to everyone who participated.
