This year we held our annual event at Indian Valley a little later than normal, in mid-June. But the weather was delightful, not too hot, and early summer wildflowers were still blooming. Construction at Indian Valley College had been completed and school was out, so there were no surprises waiting. (Just to refresh people's memories: in 2010 a major part of the campus was closed for construction after the courses were designed, in 2009 a motorcycle clinic was held on the way to White control #1, in 2008 there was a mammoth swim meet with loudspeakers.)
Deron van Hoff set wonderful courses through the hills and meadows surrounding the campus, featuring not only White through Green courses but also a Sprint course.
The White course was won by junior Gian Coolen, running under 9 minutes per kilometer. Ray and Kai Rosenbaum led the Yellow course, narrowly nosing out junior Rory Maclean. Orange was won by Adam Doti, Brown by Dan Greene, and Green by Francois Leonard. And bragging rights for the Sprint course go to Francois Leonard, again, having finished over three minutes in front of his closest competitor. Fastest women on the advanced courses were Trinka Gillis (Brown), Penny DeMoss (Green) and Marie-Josee Parayre (Sprint).
As is always the case, many volunteers helped to make the event successful. I'd especially like to thank the course setter, Deron van Hoff, who was determined to provide a wider range of excellent courses than we have had in past years. Thank you, Deron!
