Event Write-Up

Another great day at the Presidio National Park. We had over two hundred fifty participants, up from last year because of more groups.
We had many new comers, including San Rafael High School as well as scout and JROTC groups. Of course the usual suspects—our core orienteers—were there. The Presidio orienteering event is held on National Orienteering Day to encourage newcomers to try this thinking-persons sport. Thanks to Nancy Lindeman for the finish-line goodies.
Even up to the day of the event, it was unclear if all the control venues would remain intact because of the Doyle Drive project, view point construction, and work on bike paths. All worked out OK.
The courses seemed to satisfy all, but they were long. Long Orange #9 was a challenge because of the steep slope. Long Orange #7 was set off course a little, but this was quickly corrected and credit was given. The Presidio is ever changing, so thanks to all for being patient with unmapped changes.
Other then the above, everything worked well, and participants and volunteers said that they had a good time.
Thanks to the following volunteers for making the Presidio day run well. Without them the day would not have happened.
- Registration: Jean and Ev Beuerman
- Clinics: Gary Kraght, Nick Corsano, Marsha Jacobs, George Minarik
- Starts: Liz Revenko, Kevin Whilden, Bill Papendick, Steve Harrison, Jim Fish
- Finishes: Scott Aster, Tony Pinkham, Deron Von Hoff, Kent Hettherwick, Steve and David Harrison, Steve Gregg, Mikkel Conradi

- Vetter and results tally: Chuck Spalding
- Control pickup: Steve and David Harrison, Jim Fish, Nancy Lindeman, Greg Ehrensing, Marina Keating, Joe Maffei
Congratulations to the winners and all the participants. The results are below.
