Event Write-Up
By
Beautiful weather greeted those who ventured to the UC Berkeley campus for orienteering on Sunday, September 21.
With the Campanile looming overhead, 58 entrants ventured out for the White, Yellow, and Sprint courses. Leo and Grant Nakamura placed first on the White course. Kevin Harrington and Denise Ebright took top honors on the Yellow course, a mere 22 seconds ahead of Christopher Boswell. And Jonas Kjall took top honors on the sprint course.
For the most part, the event went well. The only glitch was that control #6 on the White and Yellow courses disappeared early in the event. Word made it back to the registration area, and it appears a non-participant removed it. Ben Legg quickly replaced the control, but not before several participants were unable to locate it. Those affected were Gavin Williams, Risto Pynnonen & Sarah Williams, the East Hills 4H and Lisa Jones. Our apologies, but sometimes this happens at the more populated urban events.
A big, heartfelt, thank you goes out to CHAOS (Cal Hiking and Outdoor Society). UC Berkeley requires an affiliated organization to sponsor the event and CHAOS agreed to take us on. Val Zimmer of CHAOS was instrumental in working with the university to make the UC Berkeley O happen. And course setter Ben Legg, who is a UC Berkeley graduate student, went so far as to become a member of CHAOS and also was key in working with the university.
Kudos and thanks go out to:

And thanks to anyone else who helped but I did not mention.
Finally, from the lost-and-found department, a pair of black sunglasses and a blue waterbottle were left behind.
Thanks to everyone who participated and I hope to see you next time.
