BAOC COOL
Bay Area Orienteering Club California Outdoor Orienteering League
2017–2018 Season
Let's have a COOL season this winter!
And we can start with this Sunday at Sunol.
Minimum courses for Sunol:
- Elementary – White
- Middle School – Yellow
- JV – Orange
- Varsity Girls – Brown
- Varsity Boys – Green
- College JV – Orange
- College Varsity Girls – Green
- College Varsity Boys – Red
I have set up a registration site (https://www.orienteeringusa.org/eventregister/a40/register/start/cool-2017) for the season, on which all students should register. You can also purchase a season pass and order a rental stick there (i.e., if you don't already have one).
We'll have a Winter Series for the adults as in past years—no need to register, as everyone is included who runs a High School Varsity or more difficult course.
We'll also have a new Inter-Collegiate series—registration, season passes, and rental sticks apply.
And, of course, an Inter-Scholastic (up to grade 12) series—registration, season passes, and rental sticks apply.
This year, for the top High School Varsity Boy and Varsity Girl, we have a special prize—two tickets each to the Lorde concert on March 13, 2018 in Oakland. Prior winners are not eligible (sorry, Julia, smile).
We need help—can you help?
- COOL Season Director: Decides on meets to use that have 1) electronic punching, 2) course easy enough for beginners, and 3) course hard enough for adults. Creates calendar.
- COOL Reporter: Do the WinSplits pages talk to you? Do they tell you a story? If so, just transcribe the story, and we'll put it on the web (or show you how you can easily do it yourself).
- COOL Registrar: Keep track of the registrations, collect season-pass money, and hand out COOL rental finger sticks at meets.
- COOL Meet Directors: George Minarik has offered Bon Tempe as a COOL meet this year—Yay! It would be lovely to hold a Wayne Caplinger Memorial Championship as our final meet late in February—Berkeley High, can you do this? Other meets?
I'll be keeping score and putting team results on the web.
