The President gave a summary of the Club’s recent activities, which included 28 events since the 2024 AGM. Membership has increased from 315 to 351 members. The President thanked all the Club’s volunteers and the Event Coordination team, led by the 2024 BAOC Service Award winner Graham Brew, for a successful year of orienteering.
The President also highlighted three new initiatives begun over the past year: a major website upgrade, expansion of the E-punch team, and increased commitment to youth development.

Treasurer’s Report – Gary Kraght
The Treasurer reported a balance of $121,799.26 as of June 24, 2025. This sum includes the Club’s Wells Fargo and PayPal accounts, as well as the new Wells Fargo money-market account that is now earning interest on the Club’s savings.
Event Coordinator’s Report – Graham Brew
The Event Coordinator began his report by thanking the many volunteers who have allowed the Club to host many successful events. He also thanked the Club’s Regional Event Coordinators: Scott Aster, Deron van Hoff, Rex Winterbottom, and Vicki Woolworth.
In 2024 the Club hosted 20 days of orienteering, and we are on course for 24 days in 2025. Permitting is still an issue, but good progress is being made for the remaining events this year. The Club is also investing in training more volunteers to serve as Event Directors and Course Setters, and the Event Coordinator urged anyone interested to get in touch.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 PM.
Approved by the Minutes Approval Committee on July 4, 2025.
President’s Report, June 2025
[Note: This is not part of the official meeting minutes.]
I’m pleased to present a summary of the past year for BAOC, and tell you about ongoing and upcoming initiatives.
This has been a successful year for the club. We have held 28 events since our 2024 AGM and our memberships (including family and individual) have increased from 315 to 351. I want to thank the Event Coordination team led by Graham Brew for all their efforts to keep our orienteering schedule busy. Graham was deservedly awarded the 2024 BAOC Service Award for his efforts, and will now be handing this role over to Scott Aster.
Our largest event of the past year was the Western States Championships in March at the Presidio and Calero park in San Jose. We were invited by OUSA to combine the Junior and Senior USA Team trials into this event, and I’m pleased to say that the event was a huge success attracting a large number of participants from across the US including most of the US Team members.
BAOC stepped up with a huge volunteer effort, and the event received high praise from many attendees. I would like to mention in particular the efforts of Misha Kreslavsky, John Richardson, and Gavin Wyatt-Mair in ensuring the high standard of competition at each of the three days.
The club has embarked on a number of new initiatives in the past year, I will give a brief update on 3 of them.
Firstly, our website is undergoing a major modernization, including updating the interface to be more mobile friendly, and upgrading the software platform that drives the site behind the scenes. Club volunteer Van Boughner presented the main elements recently, and we’re looking forward to launching the redesign as soon as possible
Secondly, we are also working hard to expand our E-punch team. Six new volunteers attended a recent training session led by E-punch director Jeff Lanam, and this team is now getting practical experience at our Summer Series events. Please be patient and say Hello to our new E-punch volunteers when you see them at our events.
Thirdly, our club is increasing our commitment to Youth development and training. Club member Julia Doubson has volunteered to conduct Youth training for BAOC, and the Board recently approved a donation supporting her attendance at both the IOF Youth Leadership Academy and as a coach at the Silva Youth Camp, being held in Europe this summer.
Julia organized an initial junior training session at Point Pinole earlier this year, and we are planning to ramp up this program with a more consistent schedule. Please let me know if you are interested in helping with the Youth Program or have young orienteers who would like to participate.
Of course we are always looking for more volunteers, and have specific leadership opportunities in the areas of Social Media, Equipment organization, and Orienteering Outreach. Please let me know if you could help with any of these.
In summary, it has been a strong year for the club, and the Board is striving to put people and procedures in place to support our continued growth in the upcoming period.
Finally, I want to thank all our volunteers for their contributions over the past year. We really could not do this without you — BAOC depends on this spirit of volunteering. While I have mentioned a few individuals in this report to highlight our ongoing initiatives, please know that we truly appreciate everyone who contributes their time and energy to the club and our events. It has been particularly fantastic to see a number of first-time volunteers stepping up to key roles in the past year. Thank you all for your support.
