Minutes: 2013 BAOC Annual General Meeting

Sunday, April 21, 2013
Point Pinole Regional Shoreline, Richmond, California

President Trinka Gillis opened the meeting at 1:04 PM with the President’s Report. Trinka thanked the club for a great year, with a successful Ski-O week and A-Meet at Boggs, setting up an electronic payment system, and the start of two new event series (TrailCross and Wilderness Scramble).

Kelly Wells, Treasurer, reported we are keeping ourselves in the black, with our goal being to bring in $4 to $5 per start after event expenses. Members are welcome to come to board meetings for more details.

The membership report was presented by Werner Haag, Membership Director. There are 135 active memberships covering 297 individuals (213 memberships and 442 individuals if recently lapsed memberships are counted). Werner is working on developing an automated system for reminding members to renew, which along with online payment options should help keep membership levels up.

Trinka presented awards to several Juniors to recognize their achievements on both the national and local levels. These new awards, initiated by Jay Hann, are the BAOC National Class Leader (for each age class represented), BAOC Junior Comet (by course), and BAOC Junior of the Year (1st, 2nd, and 3rd places).

Nick Corsano presented the slate proposed by the Nominating Committee and approved by the Board. Board candidates each gave a brief introduction, and the floor was opened for nominations. No additional members were nominated, so the members voted on and approved the proposed slate:

President: Jeff Lanam
Event Coordinator: Rex Winterbottom
Treasurer: Kelly Wells
Secretary: Vicki Woolworth

Rex Winterbottom, Events Coordinator, thanked Steve Gregg and Gary Carpenter for putting together today’s event, and led a group activity brainstorming for the 2014 schedule. Ideas included having a Long Orange course at each B-meet, making the master map available as a Score-O at B-meets, having two meets in succession in the same geographic area so newcomers don’t lose interest, having a fall and spring classic series with flyers like the Scramble and TrailCross series, having beginner or family courses at the Wilderness Scramble and TrailCross events, and having more camping weekends.

Werner announced he is working on making two maps, Santa Theresa Park and Evergreen Valley College, and would like some help with these projects.

Meeting adjourned at 2:07 PM.

In attendance: Bill Cusworth, Bob Cooley, Christine Brew, Cornelia Coolen, Dan Greene, Dennis Wildfogel, Derek Maclean, Deron Van Hoff, Evan Custer, François Léonard, Gary Carpenter, George Minarik, Graham Brew, Greg Ehrensing, Heidi Cusworth, Jeff Lanam, Judy Koehler, Kelly Wells, Marie-Josée Parayee, Mike Meagher, Nancy Lindeman, Nick Corsano, Nik Weber, Paula Zurowski, Peter Graube, Rex Winterbottom, Rory Maclean, Rosemary Johnson, Stephanie Maclean, Steve Gregg, Tapio Karras, Trinka Gillis, Vicki Woolworth, and Werner Haag.
