Minutes: 2011 BAOC Annual General Meeting

Sunday, April 3, 2011
Sunol Regional Wilderness, Sunol, California

President Trinka Gillis called the meeting to order at 1:45 PM.

Present were Trinka Gillis, Alex Finch, Vicki Woolworth, Mark Blair, Nick Corsano, Nancy Lindeman, George Minarik, Jay Hann, Jeff Lanam, Bob Cooley, Gavin Wyatt-Mair, Greg Ehrensing, Dan Greene, Jim Fish, Gary Kraght, Rex Winterbottom, Luc Poppe, Theo Verhoven, Evan Custer, Joan Roos, Steve Gregg, Dennis Wildfogel, Ev and Jean Beuerman, Steve Beuerman, and others.

President's Report — Trinka recognized various club members including Chuck Spalding for his contributions which earned him the BAOC Service Award, George Minarik for organizing the successful A-meet at Boggs, Jay Hann for another great COOL season, and Joan Roos and Rosemary Johnson for putting together the popular Tahoe 3-day event. 2011–2012 should also be exciting, with another COOL season in the works, the bid for events in the 2012 World Cup for Ski-Orienteering, as well as our two A-meets, Pacheco and Tahoe (don't forget to volunteer).

Treasurer's Report (given by Alex Finch for Kelly Wells) — The Bay Area Orienteering Club finished 2010 with $29084 in the bank. As mentioned in the Mar–April Bulletin, we spent $17061 more than we took in. This was the first time since 2005 that our cash dropped below $40000 at the beginning of the year. The approved 2011 BAOC Budget is more conservative than past budgets, and our goal is to finish 2011 with at least $18000–$20000 while still funding some important programs. Plans include working with OUSA on projects that will increase both membership and the revenue stream.

Approval of the 2011 AGM minutes — Trinka delegated review of the minutes to Ev and Jean Beuerman.

Elections — The slate of officers, prepared by the nominating committee and approved by the board, was presented. No further nominations were offered. The incumbents (Trinka Gillis, President; Alex Finch, Events Coordinator; Kelly Wells, Treasurer; Vicki Woolworth, Secretary) were re-elected by the membership.(*)

Rex Winterbottom led a brainstorming session on marketing ideas. Suggestions included Groupon, enhanced content on the website, longer beginner courses for distance runners, and more press releases to local publications. The ideas from the membership will be considered by the marketing task force. Additional suggestions and comments are welcome, email Rex or Nancy.(*)

Dennis Wildfogel noted that this is the 20th anniversary of our first (and only) A-meet at Sunol, and of our most popular t-shirt design, the tree circled by orienteering symbols by Mark Early.

Nancy Lindeman encouraged the members to get involved with the Ski-O Championships next winter. This will be a great opportunity to promote the sport at a high level.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:25 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Vicki Woolworth
BAOC Secretary
