Meet Directions & Parking
Directions to the Meet
To reach the competition area at Lake Tahoe-Nevada State Park at Spooner
Lake:
- From the San Francisco Bay area: Take I-80 east toward Sacramento.
Just west of Sacramento, get on Highway 50 east and follow it through Placerville
and South Lake Tahoe and up the east side of Lake Tahoe. Turn left (north) onto
Nevada Route 28 (toward Incline Village). Then follow parking instructions below.
- From Reno, Nevada: Take Highway 395 south. At Carson
City, get on Highway 50 west (toward South Lake Tahoe). After
crossing Spooner Summit, turn right (north) onto Nevada Route 28 (toward
Incline Village). Then follow parking instructions below.
Shortcut from the Bay Area
If you are coming from the Bay Area on Hwy 50 and want to avoid some of the
congestion and traffic of South Lake Tahoe...turn right onto Pioneer Trail, which is
the first signal after Route 89 joins Hwy 50 from the south. The turnoff is
slightly past the bug check on the other side of the road. Keep on the
Pioneer Trail all the way until it ends again at Hwy 50 in the heart of South
Lake Tahoe. Turn right (east) onto Hwy 50.
If you are going on to Spooner Lake, continue on Hwy 50 for another 15 miles.
If you are going to the Forest Inn, make the next right on Park (there is a Raley's
supermarket on the southwest corner of the intersection) and continue until
you have to turn left. The entrance to the lobby is on your left.

Parking
There has been a change in the parking situation since previous
announcements. The highway department has closed for construction the
off-site parking lot we had planned on using. Therefore, the rangers have
agreed to let orienteers park in the park on designated access and service
roads.
From the Hwy 50 / Route 28 intersection, go north about 1 kilometer to the
park entrance, pay the $5-per-car fee at the kiosk,
then follow the signs and instructions of the parking crew. The access road on
which you will park will be one way, and you will exit the park at a gate
south of the main entrance.
