Saturday held the promise of a cool day because of the morning fog. Sunday, however, dawned without the fog, and it ended up being hotter for the runners of the 4th Annual Golden Goat, as well as those who joined in the inaugural running of the Golden Kid, a shorter version of the Goat. Monte Bello with its steep hillsides added to the physical challenge for these runners.
46 people turned out for both of these events, as well as another 85 who came for the White, Yellow, and Orange courses. Below are results for the Golden Goat and Kid and the WYO courses.
The winners of the Goat were one family this year, with Magnus and Sanna Wollenborg winning the Men's and Women's categories, respectively. On the Kid, Patty White was the victor. The winners of the White course were the team of Andrew Rossi, Brain Bishop and Kris Santucci. Yellow was won by Max Wright while the Orange was won by Evan Custer. The Yellow course ended up having a problem with bad placement of the 9th control by the course setter. Those effected were compensated in time for this placement error.
Many, many people helped to put on this event. My thanks especially go to Dennis Wildfogel, who designed the Goat and Kid courses and spent three days prior to the event setting up the courses, and to Bob Cooley, who printed all of the maps used in the event plus remapped a small but crucial portion of Monte Bello on short notice. The rangers were very helpful, especially Linda Hyman who provided much assistance in the days prior to the event as well as on the day of the event. Ian Ramsey came from San Francisco to help carry water on Saturday, and Louise Madrid took care of numerous small errands and then headed up the overworked results crew.
