Thanks to everyone who turned out for the Golden Gate Park meet. It was a cold and windy overcast day (except for about ten minutes of sun), which luckily did not keep the 242 people comprising 147 groups from showing up. Surprisingly, Orange and then Yellow were the most popular courses. Below are the complete results.
Jean Wang finished first on White. Patty Clemo first on Long White, with an impressive 42-minute lead over the second-place finisher. Maddy and Penny took Yellow. Christian Oswald finished first on Orange with a 11-minute lead over Angelica Riley and Parag Gupta, who finished 2 seconds apart. Wyatt Riley finished first on Long Orange, with Penny DeMoss finishing second even with all the first-runner difficulties.
First and most importantly, I need to thank Harold and Penny DeMoss for pre-running and lots of help and instruction before the meet. Also Ev and Jean Beuerman for registration; Joanne Penko, Dwight and Rachel Freund, and Parag Gupta for starts; Leif Kirschenbaum and Shirley Parlan for finishes; Rosemary Johnson and George Minarik for beginner's clinics; and Bob Cooley and his two printers for lots of fresh maps during and before the meet. I can't thank this group enough for helping to keep the meet running. Also special thanks to Joe Scarborough for electronically vetting the course and making a number of very useful suggestions. Sorry if I'm leaving anyone off this list.
Early into the event, the meet was threatened by another group who had reserved a number of tables, but Jean and Ev successfully saved some space. (200 Kung Fu club members were having a picnic. I guess Jean and Ev were sufficiently intimidating!) Harold and Penny had the extra task of locating and rehanging control 2 on Long Orange, which was placed directly above someone's sleeping spot. He didn't like a hanging pie plate above him but was not diligent enough to keep Penny from finding and replacing it.
