Location: Truckee, CA

Type: A; Morning A-meet Sprint (part 1 of the 2013 Western States Championships)
Start the Western States Championships, or at least your Friday morning, with a Sprint orienteering event at Donner Memorial State Park. Competitive and recreational courses will be offered at this beautiful and historical venue. The story of the Donner party’s struggle for survival is told at the Emigrant Trail Museum, and there is swimming and boating at Donner Lake to refresh you after your race.
All are welcome at the Summerfest events, and beginners are encouraged to participate! Sprint events are short courses with many decision points—a great learning opportunity. Come early to learn more about the sport at our beginners’ clinics.
- 9:00 AM: Registration/Check-in open
- 9:30–10:30 AM: Beginners’ clinics
- 10:00 AM – 12:00: Starts (see the Note below)
- 1:00 PM: Courses close
Beginners' clinics are repeating, free introductions to orienteering. They provide enough information to be able to complete a beginner (White or Yellow) course.
Note: Preassigned start times for A-meet participants are available here (https://www.orienteeringusa.org/eventregister/a31/reglist/?event_id=38), and will be available on packets, at Registration, and at the Start. Please make sure you are at the Start at least five minutes before your assigned start time. We might be able to accommodate people who are late, but it will be most convenient for everyone if you are on time.
Please note that everyone must check in at the Finish by the course closing time, even if they have not completed their course.
Registration for the A-meet courses is now closed. (The deadline for early registration was 8:00 PM PDT July 14.) You can see who has registered (and start times) here (https://www.orienteeringusa.org/eventregister/a31/reglist/?event_id=38).
There will be day-of-event registration for competitive courses, with higher fees. (Early registration is not available for recreational courses. Registration will be at the event and standard event fees will apply.)
Note that there is a "Package Deal" for all the Summerfest events (but it requires early registration).
The SPORTident electronic punching system will be used to record controls. Each participant or team will need one E-stick. E-stick rentals are $3 per event. Compasses can also be rented at $1 each.
