Berkeley Street-O
Date: (Sun.) Mar. 22, 2009
Location: Berkeley, CA
Event Director: - 510.681.6181
Course Setter: Rex Winterbottom
Type: C; FREE Street-O on a new map by Rex, in conjunction with the Fleet Feet store in Berkeley.
Note: The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, March 21.
Enjoy a whirlwind tour of landmarks in the scenic Berkeley hills. A Score-O course will be set in the streets, staircases, and parks marbled into the neighborhoods such as Indian Rock and Codornices. The new, 1:10000 map by Rex will include park detail where available, so prepare to go off the beaten path. 60-minute and 90-minute categories will be offered. An efficient route to get all controls is expected to be about 8 km point to point, 10 km in reality. And there will be climb—these are the Berkeley hills!
And it's free!

And now a word from our sponsor, Fleet Feet Berkeley
Fleet Feet Berkeley (http://www.fleetfeetberkeley.com) is a running and fitness store that sells shoes, clothing, and accessories. There will be refreshments and goodies—they are offering the following to participants:
- A free T-shirt with a design and name of the event: "Berkeley Hills Streets & Ladders"
- A goodie bag for all participants
- A 10% discount on store items
Fleet Feet organizes regular fun runs for the community on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM, and Saturday morning 8:00 AM.

Volunteers
Please contact if you can help at all with the standard event tasks. Also, especially, we would like BAOC members to be around during the 9:00 clinic to be available to the newcomers to the sport and kind of be ambassadors.
We will offer whoever is willing as a shadower / mentor on the course. Let me know if you could do this.
Traffic and Safety
Use caution when crossing The Alameda/Martin Luther King, Jr. Way (one street, two names)—cross when the walk sign is lit. Otherwise, there are no major roads, but several see heavier traffic, such as Marin, Euclid, and Spruce, and cars can be encountered anywhere. Safety first, and always look both ways—take your eye off your map when crossing roads.
Driving Directions
From Highway 80, take the Buchanan St. exit, and head towards Albany where it becomes Marin Ave.
From Highway 580 from Marin, take the Albany exit, and follow the signs, which will dump you onto Marin Ave.
Follow Marin past San Pablo to the light at Sante Fe. Ave. Turn left onto Santa Fe., then after a block, turn right onto Solano Ave. Fleet Feet is at 1758 Solano Ave., Berkeley, 94704.
There's a map here that shows the location of the event.
Public Transit
The AC Transit #18 bus line runs up and down Solano Ave. There are 20 minutes between each successive bus, and they stop at the Berkeley BART station. If you want to walk, run, or bike from BART, the closest stations are North Berkeley and El Cerrito, and each is just under 2 miles from the store.
