Lodging

Plenty of lodging is available near our competition venues in the Bear Valley Area and the Greater North Lake Tahoe Area. If you are planning to compete at all of the events, you need to make reservations for both areas — two or three nights at Bear Valley, and five to six nights in the Lake Tahoe area (Soda Springs, Truckee, or Tahoe City). All of the Tahoe venues (Royal Gorge, ASC, Tahoe Donner, and Tahoe XC) are within 45 minutes of one another, with Truckee being in the approximate center.

Although there are plenty of places to stay, we definitely recommend making reservations by November, because the rest of Northern California fills up the lodging close to the ski resorts. Hotel prices are usually high, but you can rent condos or cabins for 5-15 people for very nice rates. If you want to help out with event work (starts, E-punch, control pickup, registration, beginner clinics, etc.), ask about the volunteer's house — we sometimes are able to make arrangements for a nearby cabin at a low price.

There will be a travel day between the events at Bear Valley and Royal Gorge. If you want to save money and have an easy drive to the Lake Tahoe area, consider leaving Bear Valley on Sunday and staying somewhere on Highway 49 while touring the Gold Rush historical sites along that highway. The highway is typically easy to drive (typically too low for snow) and the hotels along the way are often cheaper than at the skiing areas. If you don't want to waste any time, you can easily drive from Bear Valley to Tahoe in maybe 4-5 hours.
