Lakeshore Halloween Night Street-O

Date: (Wed.) Oct. 31, 2007
Location: Oakland, CA
Event Director: - 510.779.8808
Course Setter: Rex Winterbottom
Type: Fun run through "ground central" of the Oakland Halloween trick-or-treat scene

Join us on October 31 for a run through "ground central" of the Oakland Halloween trick-or-treat scene. Rex Winterbottom plans to set a course that is specifically designed to take you by the decorated houses of Oakland and lower Piedmont. You are encouraged to wear your gaudiest orienteering outfit, as you will fit right in with the massive trick-or-treat crowd. (Two years ago, wearing my club O suit and my large Silva headlight, one little kid commented "Look, Dad, there's a guy dressed up as a miner!")

The "event center" will be at the Rolling Dunes restaurant in Oakland, at 3331 Lakeshore Avenue, in the Lakeshore shopping district.

The restaurant is a couple doors down from Starbucks, which is at the corner of Trestle Glen and Lakeshore. You can find street parking within a block or two of the event, or take the NX1 AC Transit bus from San Francisco, or the NL bus. There is not a convenient BART stop, though you could jog about 1–2 miles from 19th St. or Lake Merritt. If you're driving, take the Grand Avenue/Lakeshore Avenue exit off 580, then proceed less than a block northeast up Lakeshore. (Google for better directions!)

Rex is still finalizing the course details, but it will likely be some sort of score-O, where you will be looking for stickers on lampposts to prove you have been to the correct location. A mass start at 7 P.M. is planned, but it will certainly be possible to start a bit earlier or later if you like.

Plan to stay at Rolling Dunes for dinner and/or socializing afterwards.

We have never had more than about a dozen people at this event before, so please email and if you plan to attend, so that we can be sure to print up enough maps. We hope to see you there!
