Date: (Sat.) May. 20, 2006
Location: Walnut Creek, CA
Event Directors: - 707.557.6251, - 925.926.0853
Course Setters: François Léonard, Marie-Josée Parayre
Type: B; Standard White through Blue courses; BAOC Annual General Meeting & Officer Elections
Note: The BAOC annual general meeting and officer elections will be held at this event.
This will be a standard event with the full range of courses offered. The standard schedule (http://baoc.org/wiki/FAQ/When_are_the_meets%3F) for registration, starts and course closure will be followed. E-punch will be used for all courses. Maps are 1:10000. Poison oak prevalence in the park is low, but if you are very sensitive, please take precautions. A portable toilet will be available near the registration area.
This year, I am trying to use a scarcely used portion of the map for part of the courses. All advanced courses will visit this area, although on the shorter courses it will only be for a short section. To access this area and have courses of manageable length and climb, we will have a remote start 750m from the assembly area. (It takes about 10 minutes of walking to get there).
As usual at Shell ridge, we have been instructed by the park ranger NOT to climb over or crawl under fences. Hence, crossing a fence without using a gate will be an automatic disqualification. All advanced courses have mandatory crossing points at gates. The location of the gate will be indicated on the map and on the clue sheet by the mandatory crossing symbol, and the segments that join controls for these legs bend through the crossing. Control bags will NOT be located at the gates.
This year I have made extensive map corrections, particularly in the new section. However, the starting map was lacking so much in detail that I have only been able to add a fraction of the detail. Your input on the corrections is appreciated.
