Penny and I have scheduled the Bon Tempe event for Dec 17th and 18th, 2005. It will be "Volunteer Appreciation Weekend". "Volunteers" being defined as those club members who have contributed "significantly" to club events during 2005.

The Bon Tempe administration restricts the use of "groups" to 20 people a day, so by having our event over 2 days, we can accommodate 40 runners. We will have a priority system for entrants this year. First priority will be given to Event Directors and Course Setters of scheduled events. With regard to the "A" Meet at Joe Grant in October, priority will also be given to the Committee Heads: Start, Finish, Pickup, Vetting, Registration, etc. There are also other club members who provide services during the year that do not fall into the aforementioned catagories. They will also be given first priority.

Penny and I are planning to do some map corrections during the year, and perhaps make the map a little more user friendly in some areas. Perhaps we can eliminate some of the "fourth dimension", paranormal features of the "Hillside of Death"! On dark and stormy nights, the ghosts of past Bon Tempe events can be seen wondering around the cliffs and boulders!

November Update

Here are the preliminary stats for the Bon Tempe Volunteer Appreciation meet of Dec. 17 and 18. (See the Course Setter's Notes for an update.)

These might change slightly after vetting, but it'll still be about as follows:

  Short 3.4 km 165 m climb 8 controls
  Medium 5.0 km 225 m climb 12 controls
  Long 6.4 km 293 m climb 15 controls

We had every intention of going over and trying, once again, to sort out the "hillside of death", but I don't know where the year went. I'm thinking we might have spent far too much time carping! (I hope Harold doesn't see this.)

At any rate, we can make changes after we vet if we see anything obvious.

I love it over there. It's my favorite BAOC venue, with it's alpine lakes, varied woods, unpredictable weather, runable open areas free of ankle wrenching "cow holes"......terrific.

Please join us for a free (except for the park entry fee) run in the woods, and treats, if you have volunteered this year. We already have 10 entries for each day, and we are allowed only 20 per day. If you want to come, you'd better let us know. We'll keep a waiting list in case of cancellations.

Please mention which day you'd like to attend. You don't have to decide which course you want to run right now, but it will help us print the proper number of maps if you know.
