Thanks to Course Setter and Event Director
I'd like to publicly thank Graham Brew for a really good course yesterday. The legs were well thought out, there were a lot of technical details plus ample route choice, and very little "dead" running. I'd never run a course with anywhere near that number of controls (42) before, and concentrating that much while running was a challenge in itself. Very well done!
I'd also like to point out that before volunteering to set the course for yesterday's event, Graham was already scheduled to set courses at a meet later in the year, and also recently volunteered to be one of the five Regional Event Coordinators. In other words, Graham really went above and beyond the call of duty here, and we all owe him a great big thank-you.
I'd also like to thank Marie-Josée (another person who had already volunteered for more than her share) for stepping in as Event Director.

Several People Ran Through "Olive Green"
Don't want anyone to feel too badly, but we need everyone to pay attention to this issue. Yesterday, several people (at different times) ran through an area marked as olive green on the map. It is strictly forbidden to run through an olive-green area, not only in fairness to the other orienteers who are obeying the rule, but mainly because those areas are marked that way because the landowners have requested that we not go through them. Violating that rule puts us in danger of not being able to get a permit in the future. Thus, this is a very important rule to pay attention to.
[Editor's note: In a section titled "Impassable (DO NOT CROSS)", the map legend labeled olive green as "Private property/restricted area – DO NOT ENTER". Unfortunately, both messages were truncated somewhat on the first and third maps.]
The violations yesterday happened on the leg from #32 to #33. Running between those buildings in the olive-green area is clearly not allowed, but several people did that. Unfortunately in this case, there was nothing in the terrain that would make you think the area was out of bounds, but nevertheless it is incumbent upon each of us to be vigilant about noticing those olive-green areas and to navigate around them.
We're not looking for any confessions, nor looking to get anyone DQ'd as a result of yesterday's actions. I'm sure no one did it on purpose. But I am asking each of you to take a good look at that leg, and if you think that maybe you ran through the olive-green area, think about how you might avoid doing so in the future.
Sorry for the stern tone. Accidents happen, I get that. But please try to give this issue your attention to minimize the chances that it happens in the future.
Thanks,

Short Course Medium Course Long Course Summer Series Points
Also see control-by-control timing in the WinSplits results (http://www.obasen.nu/winsplits/online/en/show_event.asp?id=50105).
- As an experiment, I combined all three classes and uploaded the splits to WinSplits here (http://obasen.orientering.se/winsplits/online/en/show_event.asp?id=50119). Now you can compare your splits with everyone else. If you didn't do all three loops, you show up as mispunched. It would be a fair amount of work to fix that. I don't know if I can merge this into a single WinSplits page. Let me know if you find this "Combined" class worthwhile, and I will do it for the rest of the Summer Series.
