It was real pleasure to welcome BAOC's U.S. Team members back from Europe, and watch them exhibit their sprint skills at the U.C. Berkeley event. They have all gotten really fast, and this has changed the complexion of the club's competitions.
It was the warmest day of the summer on campus! The weather kept down the turnout, and limited the number of competitors on the Long course. Despite the heat there were many notable performances.
Alie Bui and Jeremy Yuan won the Beginner course, and then came back to post excellent times on the Sprint and Middle courses. Looks like they have great potential.
Matej Å ebo, returning from JWOC in Norway, won the Sprint in a speedy time, and came back to win the Middle. Tori Borish, back from the WOC in Scotland, was the first women in the Sprint as well as the Middle.
Jorgen Schnack, here on business from Denmark, won the Long course. Veteran Penny DeMoss posted a strong time as the first women on the Long course.
The club members responsible for the success of the meet were as follows:

- E-Punch: Rosemary Johnson's team included Evan Custer and Stephen Granger-Bevan
- Beginner's Clinics: Stephen Granger-Bevan, François Léonard, and Marie-Josée Parayre

- Control Pickup: Matej Å ebo, Lubo Å ebo, Steve Gregg, and Greg Ehrensing
- Behind the scenes: Maps were printed by Bob Cooley, the Website edited by Chuck Spalding, and the insurance secured by Marina Keating. My assistant was Leslie Minarik, who among other duties, was out there at 6 AM placing controls. Thanks to Gabby McGrath at U.C. Berkeley Event Services. She is a delight to work with.
If I have forgotten someone, I apologize.
And finally thanks to all 100 or so people who ventured out on this hot day. Hope you enjoyed the courses as much as I did designing them.

Middle Course (4.4 km, 165 m climb, 18 controls)
Several people ran the Middle course after running the Sprint course. They got no benefit from having run the Sprint, since no controls were shared, and had the disadvantage on the Middle of having already run a course.
