Event Write-Up
By
Over 200 people showed up for our event at Stanford. Several scout troops were ready to go at 9 AM, and couldn't wait for the Start to open at 10 AM. When the Start finally opened, start times for the White course were already taken up to 11:34 AM. Having bigger groups of scouts (who called themselves "Poison Dart Frogs", "Fire Hawks", or simply "Troop 206") gave this event certainly a special flavor. We were running beginner's clinics until after lunch to fulfill their many requests. Many scouts were surprised during the clinics to hear that a bearing in degrees is really not needed to get from one control to the next.
The map for the Frame-O showed much more than intended. Originally only a small frame around the white window was planned, but we ended up with having the complete map minus the window. Nevertheless many people enjoyed it, and thought it would make for a great practice on other maps too.
The Stanford campus was very busy this weekend, with several other activities going on. As a result, we even got to enjoy a live concert right at the Start/Finish area — perfect for celebrating Dennis' birthday.
There are so many people to thank that I will certainly miss several. So please accept my apology if I forgot you (or send me an email and I will add you).
- Brett Carter – Getting the permits from Stanford
- Bob Cooley – Doing map corrections (it is unbelievable how much the campus changes between events), printing the maps, and even printing more maps on site when we ran out of White and Yellow maps
- Alan Glendinning – Giving me the plate controls, banners, traffic signs, etc.
- Ev & Jean Beuerman – Registration
- Michelle Daher – Starts and results
- Philipp & Daniel Kopisch (men of all trades) – Beginner's clinics, finish, results, signing off scout handbooks
- George Minarik – Results
- Tapio Karras – Putting the courses on RouteGadget

Note regarding RouteGadget data entry:
- Since there was no e-punch, the event is set up using the "no results" mode, where competitors need to enter their name, total time, and any cumulative splits that they might have. Note that if you are uploading a GPS track, you don't need to enter your total time or any of the splits.
- You can draw your route even if you didn't take any splits, just enter your name and total time. Note that RouteGadget requires cumulative splits. Both splits and total time need to be in MMMSS format. For example, 0:57 is entered as "57", 5min43s as "543", and 1hr12min32s as "7232". That's easy.
