Event Write-Up

By

Another great day at the Presidio of San Francisco in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. We had over two hundred fifty participants. The Presidio O' event proved again this year to have world-wide appeal. In the past we've had visitors from many parts of the world. This year we a family join us from Dublin, Ireland.

We had many young orienteers, including school, scout, and JROTC groups. Of course, the usual suspects — our core orienteers — were there as well. The Presidio orienteering event is held on National Orienteering Day to encourage newcomers to try this thinking-persons sport. Thanks to Nancy Lindeman for the goodies and publicity at the Finish.

The courses were long, and in some cases a bit challenging (Yellow #1 to #2 for instance). The Presidio is ever changing, so thanks to all for being patient with unmapped changes. Even up to the day of the event, it was unclear if all the control sites would remain intact, because of the Doyle Drive construction project. I think we avoided most of the Doyle Drive mess, and everything worked out OK. The most important outcome was that participants and volunteers said they had a good time.

Thanks to the following volunteers for making the Presidio day run well. Without them the day would not have happened.

Registration: Jean and Ev Beuerman
Clinics: Marsha Jacobs, Dan Greene, Alex Finch, Steve Gregg
Starts: Liz Revenko, Steve and David Harrison, Damian Swift, Scott Aster
Finishes and results: Scott Aster, Kent, Molly, and Adam Hetherwick, Steve and David Harrison, Steve Gregg, Mikkel Conradi, Marsha Jacobs, Nick Corsano, Dennis Haire
Food and publicity: Nancy Lindeman
Control pickup: Steve and David Harrison, Greg Ehrensing, Marina Keating, Joe Maffei

Particular thanks to:

Bob Cooley, who not only printed the maps as he does for all BAOC events, but also visited the park and made map changes to reflect all the construction activity, and was very helpful with entering the courses and creating the control descriptions.
Chuck Spalding, who was a great help acting as assistant to the Event Director and Course Setter, as well as tabulating the results.

Congratulations to the winners and to all the participants. The results are below.

Entering your route in RouteGadget:

Since there was no e-punch, the event is set up using the "no results" mode, where participants need to enter their name, total time, and any cumulative splits that they might have taken. Note that if you are uploading a GPS track, you don't need to enter your total time or splits.

You can draw your route even if you didn't take any splits — just enter your name and total time. Note that RouteGadget requires cumulative splits. Both splits and total time need to be in MMMSS format. For example, 0:57 is entered as "57", 5min43s as "543", and 1hr12min32s as "7232". That's easy.
