Event Write-Up
By Nancy Lindeman
We were lucky and had a short break between storms for our Saturday afternoon event and evening potluck dinner. It didn't start raining until after the dinner, when we were loading things into the car. More than 100 people came out to enjoy the courses that Steve Beuerman set.
Jamie Caplinger finished the White Course first in 29:11, far ahead of everyone else.
We had a slight problem, since one of the controls on White was a sign in front of someone's home. After the first two groups came by, the owners of the home came out and took down the sign. When I went out there to check, people on the course were gathered in the area looking for the control. The owners were home, but I didn't ring their doorbell to ask them to put the sign back up. They probably took down the sign because they didn't want people standing in front of their house, but after they took down the sign they had even more people going back and forth in front of their house looking for the control. I guess we need to use only signs that can't be removed!
Eric Bone won the sprint, coming in just 14 seconds ahead of Rex Winterbottom. Steph Maclean and Terry Farrah were the first females to finish the sprint, and 6-year-old Julia Doubson was the third-place female on the course.
On the Score-O courses Gabrielle Delforge-Melia was first on the 5-out-of-22-controls course, Rex Winterbottom topped the 10-out-of-22 category, Bob Cooley won the 15-out-of-22 course, and Pierre Delforge was first in the 20-out-of-22 category.
On the 20-out-of-22 course, number 51 was the most popular skip, with 4 skips. The other controls had just 1 or 2 people skipping them.
The Yerba Buena JROTC, and Kelly Wells and Marley the dog, got all 22 controls.
Eric and Terry's Dance, Dance Revolution was a success. It was set up throughout the afternoon and evening, so many people tried it. We discovered that no one in our group was really too old or too young to enjoy it. Many of us had never tried it before, so there was quite a bit of laughing.
