I am pleased to announce that the winners of the 7-hour division, and winners overall of the Astrogaine at North Grant Ranch, with a score of 3205 out of a possible 3415 points, are the team of Andrejus Masalkovas and Sergey Grushin (team VaBank). In keeping with BAOC tradition, Andrejus and Sergey were awarded the coveted BAOC Perpetual Rogaine Trophy, to be cherished in their custody until the club's next rogaine event. But since Andrejus has been a member of the winning team in all of the previous three rogaines held before the Astrogaine, the trophy was in the possession of club officials for only a few fleeting hours, only to be re-presented to Andrejus for the fourth consecutive time at the conclusion of the Astrogaine.
Right on the heels of Andrejus and Sergey were several strong teams of Adventure Racers in a close competition that left the second-place Team Bones only a mere 20 points ahead of the third-place Thin Air team when it was all over.
The team of Dan Greene and Piers Newbery, due in large part to a very clever route choice, won the 4-hour division of the Astrogaine, with a score of 1680 points. This was an impressive 190 points ahead of the second-place 4-hour team.
It's also worth noting that Penny DeMoss and Steph Maclean, the only women's team to enter the Astrogaine, finished 8th out of a strong field of 21 teams in the 4-hour event.
You may also be amused to note that the team Dirty Avocados beat their presumed arch-rivals, the team Dirty Avocado "Meat", by only 5 points. This is the smallest possible difference between two scores. Ouch.
