On a beautiful Sunday we had 272 participants (including some second courses) try out the orienteering courses. I met a lot of newcomers to the sport, and some of the usual suspects. All had a good time based on the feedback.
The courses were set with challenge as well as scenic beauty in mind. The Presidio is always a challenge, because it is continually changing as well as being in an urban setting. As usual, we had at least one control moved by someone. The courses this year were designed to be a bit more challenging. Based on feedback, the Yellow course may have been a little too difficult. A control on the Long Orange course (#6, rootstock) was not placed correctly, so we gave credit to all for this control. All in all the Presidio is a great orienteering venue for all levels of orienteers. Everyone I spoke to (new or experienced) had a great time.
We gave away several compasses to those newcomers who signed on as BAOC members. I hope that all newcomers will join BAOC and participate in other events.
