President’s Report, April 2026

[Note: This is not part of the official meeting minutes.]

I’m pleased to present a summary of the past year for BAOC and our ongoing initiatives.

The club is in a strong position. We held 25 orienteering events in the last 12 months. Our membership has increased to 380, with a 20% increase over just the last 2 years.

I want to thank the Event Coordination team led by Scott Aster for all their efforts to keep our orienteering schedule busy. Permitting continues to be a challenge, particularly in the East Bay, where we appreciate Vicki Woolworth’s hard work and persistence as the East Bay Coordinator.

Orienteers from across the country joined us at the Lake Tahoe 4-day event last Summer, and we will do it again in late July this year, thanks to Rex Winterbottom’s tireless leadership. I encourage all of you to attend and volunteer at this year’s event.

There are several ongoing club initiatives I would like to give an update on:

Finally, I want to thank all our volunteers for their contributions over the past year. We really could not do this without you — BAOC depends on this spirit of volunteering. While I have mentioned a few individuals in this report to highlight our ongoing activities, please know that we truly appreciate everyone who contributes their time and energy to the club and our events. It has been particularly excellent to see a number of first-time volunteers stepping up to key roles in the past year. Thank you all for your support.
