Practice Session at
Arastradero, Palo Alto

Wednesday, May 19, 1999

6:00pm

I will offer two courses at Arastradero:

These are standard point-to-point courses on a home-made color map. There will be Start-O controls with punches for all except one of the short course controls. For this missing control you will need to memorize the number of ribbons hanging there and report it to me to pass the course. The courses should be fast, but offer some route choice on the Long. Gaiters and good leg protection are recommended for the long.

REMOTE START: Please note that the start/finish area will be at the pond at the west side. From the parking area walk on the path along the road about 200 m, cross the road, and follow the main trail alongside the stream to the pond about 650 m in. I'll hang some streamers to help newcomers find it. The pond is a nice place to hang out, fish, or contemplate the meaning of life. So bring a folding chair and relax and watch the other finishers.

DIRECTIONS: To get to Arastradero Preserve, take 280 to the Page Mill exit in Palo Alto. Go West for half a mile or so and make a right onto Arastradero Road. Follow this about a mile and park in the dirt lot on the right side.

Water and Toilet are available in this lot but not at the pond.

Cost will be $2.00 for the map, premarked with both courses.
