Briones, Orinda

Sunday, May 2, 1999

With the rains a memory, the hills still green, and the wild flowers in full bloom, early May is a great time to spend a few hours in the rolling hills of Briones. In addition to interesting navigation on the new map of the northern section of the park, you?ll also enjoy mostly open mixed woodland and meadow and views of Mt. Diablo. Briones rarely disappoints!

We will be offering the full complement of 7 courses, from a short but varied beginners white course to a physically and mentally challenging blue course. The map is digital 1:10,000, 7.5m contours (with latest updates), and we will have pre-marked maps available. The finish is visible from the nearby picnic area, so bring some lunch. One note of caution: The intermediate and advanced courses go through areas with poison oak (difficult to avoid here) ? please take precautions.

We will be using the Alhambra Valley Road entrance, in the NE portion of the park: From Route 24 in the East Bay, take the Pleasant Hill Road exit, and head north towards Concord. Go for about 1 mile and turn left onto Reliez Valley Road. Continue on this road for about 5 miles, and look for O' signs at the entrance to the park on the left.
