Indian Valley, Novoto

March 7, 1999

Make a date to come and enjoy some of our best and most challenging orienteering terrain. In March, the forest should be green, soft and cool; the controls neatly placed at small but distinct features; the meet staff friendly and eager to help you enjoy your experience.

The Indian Valley event will feature all seven courses plus a Start-O. The map covers the open space area around the College of Marin Indian Valley Campus. It is mostly forested ridge and valley terrain. The runnability is good but the Orange through Blue courses will probably go into some steep areas. There is a small to moderate amount of poison oak.

The map scale is 1:10000 with 5 meter contours. It was produced by George Kirkov in 1992. This map is not digitized so courses will need to be copied from master maps after starting. There will also be some map corrections to be copied (before starting). Starts and finishes will be close to the registration area.

If the weather is ok, bring a picnic and socialize while watching your competitors stagger to the finish line. Beginners and veterans alike are encouraged to gather for course reviews.

Directions: Take Highway 101 and exit at Ignacio Blvd about 2 miles south of Novato. Go west on Ignacio until it ends at the campus entrance. Follow the campus road to the end and parking. There will be signs to registration, which will be located by the pool area as usual. There is no park entrance fee and plenty of free parking.
