Bay Area Back Roads II

A repeat of the November 3 event, the subject of filming for the TV program this time featuring the White and Yellow courses especially for the viewers of the program who want to come out and give it a try. There will also be orienteering for advanced and intermediate orienteers who volunteer to help with the organization or who are not planning to go to Stanford on the 5th or who want both. Registration at 10:00. Instruction at 10:30 and 11:00. Starts 11:00-12:30. Contact Joe Scarborough for further information or to volunteer to help. joedscarcrl.com

LOCATION: Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland

MAP: 1:5,000 enlargement, 20 ft. contours, all courses pre-marked. The usual caveat applies regarding the quality of the map. It is somewhat out of date making it inaccurate and inconsistent with respect to paths and vegetation in particular. Important corrections will be made.

TERRAIN: A beautiful place to orienteer. Undulating redwood forest, generally very runnable but with patches of undergrowth. Poison oak is minimal.

TO GET THERE: From Highway 13, the Warren Freeway, head East up Joaquin Miller Road. After about 1.5 miles, turn left on Skyline Drive. After about 1 mile, note the entrance to Roberts Recreation Area. Continue another 200 meters on Skyline and park either side of the road. Follow the streamers on the west side of the road for about 100m to the assembly/start/finish area.
