In memory of the Golden Goat, this year's Las Trampas event will be as tough as the Goat was last year. Be prepared to test your orienteering skill in Las Trampas' famous hills. Advanced courses (with e-punching) will be located in the rarely used north and northeastern parts of the park.

Las Trampas Wilderness features steep open hills with some tree cover in the southern section of the park. Star thistle is abundant on the open lower levels. The other two-thirds of the park contain a forested plateau on top of extremely steep canyons. Only a few paths can be used to traverse impenetrable brush along the cliff edges of the plateau.

White, Yellow, Orange, Brown, Green, Red, and Blue courses will be offered for you. Registration will be open from 9:30 to 12:00, and course starts from 10:00 to 12:30. Repeating 15- to 20-minute beginners' clinics will be offered between 9:30 and 10:30. This event will be held rain or shine.

Starts and finishes for the beginners and intermediate courses will be held near the registration area.

The Brown through Blue courses will use a remote start and finish (at the same area) at the usual location up the hill. Allow 20-25 minutes from the registration area to reach the start/finish. The Red and Blue courses will visit some new terrain.

I need volunteers for this meet. Please call or e-mail if you can help, especially with control pickup at the end. If it rains, tents will be available for volunteers at the start (for the lower-level courses), finishes, and registration.

Picnic tables, restrooms, and water are available, so if the day is nice, bring a picnic and meet your fellow orienteers.

Registration will be at the picnic area near the end of Bollinger Canyon Road. Look for the Orienteering signs.
