COYOTE HILLS Back to Schedule
Contact: Ian Tidswell, 415-681-7075 This event is part of the National Orienteering Day Festivities, is designed as the perfect opportunity to try Orienteering for those with no or little experience of orienteering. After last year's tremendously popular event, we are back at Coyote Hills Regional Park in Fremont (right by the Dumbarton Bridge). Coyote Hills is a cluster of hills rising up to about 80m above the Bay. Mostly open grassland, the area has easy to moderate navigation and fantastic views all the way up to Marin. The surrounding salt flats offer great bird-watching and the area is a favorite for picnics. Four courses will be offered. Course lengths are tentative pending final review by the park ranger.
No pre-registration is necessary - please plan to arrive between 9:30am and noon (starts are staggered so anytime in this window is fine). For the White and Yellow courses, it typically takes anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes to complete the course. As always, you must report to the finish by 2:00pm whether you complete the course or not (we don't want to have to go looking for you!). White and yellow courses cost $6 for the first person, $2 for each additional adult, $1 for each additional child. There are discounts for students, youth groups, and second courses. Note there is an EBRPD parking fee of $4 per car.
Directions Coyote Hills is conveniently located just north of the east end of the Dumbarton Bridge in Fremont. From 880 in Fremont, exit at Decoto Road and go west onto the freeway (Highway 84) that leads to the Dumbarton bridge. After traveling about 2 miles, exit at the Thornton Ave. / Paseo Padre exit, and turn right (north) on Paseo Padre. After about 1 mile, turn left at the entrance to Coyote Hills Regional Park and follow orienteering signs. From the Peninsula, take 84 east to the Dumbarton Bridge. After you have crossed the bridge and passed the toll plaza, take the first exit at Thornton Ave/ Paseo Padre. Turn left (north) on Paseo Padre and proceed about 1 mile, turning left at the entrance to the park.
