Come and Try It! A new park and a new map! No Hills! No poison oak! And you don't have to even fly to the East Coast!

Have you had friends or family members that have been interested in trying orienteering but did not want to make a long drive? Or did not want to spend the day deep in the woods? Or they were alergic to poison oak? Well here's your chance to bring them to a "Come and Try It" event. There will only be only one course--a 3km White course with essentially no climb (oh, well maybe a little.) For intermediate and advanced orienteers, the course can be done as a memory-O.

Vasona Lake, a facility of the County of Santa Clara Regional Parks and Recreation System, is 151 acres and located just off of Highway 17 in Los Gatos and is the site of BAOC's newest map. After orienteering, there will be plenty to do. We have reserved a group area that has plenty of shaded picnic tables and barbeque grills, so bring your lunch. There are boats for rent, a train to ride, and even a carousel at nearby Oak Meadow Park. It will be a perfect event to bring the whole family to.

Directions

To get to Vasona Lake, take highway 17 South from San Jose. Exit at Lark Avenue and turn left (east, over the highway at the light.) At the first traffic light, turn right (south) onto Los Gatos Boulevard. Turn right again (west) at a traffic light onto Blossom Hill Road. After crossing over Highway 17 again, the park entrance will be on your right. There is a $4 per car parking charge at the kiosk. Parking and registration will be located at the Raintree group site which is located in the most Northeast portion of the park.
