Come out and join in the fun this Sunday morning. We will be starting from Roy Cloud School in the Redwood City hills. There will be a mass start at 10:00 or you can start on any of the courses any time between 10:00 and 12:30. 25 of the controls will be on the crooked streets and 5 of the controls will be in adjacent Edgewood Park. Steve Beuerman set the courses and Sharon Evans vetted them and updated the map for us. You will enjoy the interesting homes, gardens, views and the first wildflowers of the season in Edgewood Park. We look forward to seeing you there. We need help with beginner's clinics, starts and finishes. Let me know if you'd like to help.

Directions

Roy Cloud School is located on the corner of Jefferson Avenue and Emerald Hill Road. To get there, take I-280 to the Farm Hill Boulevard exit. Go north on Farm Hill abut one mile to the intersection with Emerald Hill Road and turn left. Go three blocks, turn right onto Red Oak Way and make an immediate left into the school parking lot. There is additional parking in another parking lot off Jefferson.

Course setter's notes

Welcome to the 2003 Emerald Hills event. The format of this event is a little different from past events here. In addition to the White Beginner course, there is an advanced course using "Western Mass Rules." Participants need to find any 7, 14, 21 or 28 controls, depending on how long they want to be out on the course. There are no bonus points for extra controls. The stats below are approximate for the advanced courses.
 White 10 controls 2.4k
Short any 7 of 30 controls around 3.7K
Medium any 14 of 30 controls around 7K
Long any 21 of 30 controls around 10K
Longest any 28 of 30 controls around 15K
Distances for all courses but white are estimates, as it depends on which controls you get.

Rules

  1. COURSES CLOSE AT 2 PM. EVERYONE MUST CHECK IN AT THE FINISH BY 2 PM.
  2. Results are based on time. People getting 7-13 controls are in the Short class, 14-20 in the Medium, 21-27 in the Long, and 28-30 in the Longest. 0-6 controls are a DNF.
  3. For the advanced course, you don't need to decide which class you are running until you turn in your score sheet.
  4. Stay on trails and roads. DO NOT GO OFF TRAIL IN EDGEWOOD PARK.
  5. Every question at the control has one and only one correct answer.
