ALERT! Date changed due to scheduling conflict at REI.

To compensate for getting sick and punting my Intermediate Skills clinic at December's Stanford meet, I'm offering one on Jan. 18, right before the Joe Grant meet on Jan. 21. So come to the mid-week clinic and then practice your new skills on the weekend!

If you are a Yellow or Orange (or newly advanced) orienteer who wants to improve your navigational skills, this clinic is for you. We will cover effective map reading, route choice, navigation strategies (attack points, handrails, catching features, aiming off, etc.), compass use, pace counting, error detection and correction, and other techniques.

The clinic is 6:30-8:30 pm, and is free. Please e-mail me by Jan. 15 if you plan to attend, so I know how many handouts to prepare. Feel free to bring along a recent course map with troublesome legs that you'd like to discuss. If you have a compass, please bring it for the compass practice.

The clinic will be held at REI's Saratoga store in the South Bay. The meeting room is at the rear of the store, near customer service. Ask for the orienteering clinic when you get there, or just stroll to the back. I will start promptly at 6:30, so if you are late and the doors are closed, come on in.
