Sierra 2000 O-Fest
Start Procedure
The start procedure will have a 2-minute call-up instead of the
previously announced 4 minutes. At two minutes before your scheduled
start, your name will be called, and your e-card number will be checked. At
one minute before your start, you will advance to the start line. At zero
minutes, the horn will sound, and you will follow the marked route to the
remote start triangle, where you will pick up your map and immediately begin
navigating to the first control.
USOF Rule 31.8 will be enforced. The rule states, "If competitors are late
for their start through their own fault they shall be started as soon as
practically possible. The actual time of their start shall be noted on
their map, or a start list at the start location. Their time will still be
computed, however, from their original start time given in the official
start list..."
The only start time changes that will be allowed are for
event workers whose duties prevented them from reaching the start in time.
If you arrive late to your start and it was not the fault of the organizer
(such as the ski lift was not operating as described), you will be started
on the next odd minute available but your elapsed time will be calculated
from your scheduled start time. Please do not argue with the start
officials. You will just be losing more time. If you feel you have a valid
reason for your late start, discuss it with the event director after
completion of your course.
If you need to change your start time for a
valid reason, please contact Dan Greene, the start crew chief, before the
regular start window begins, and he will make changes at that time.
However, the changes will not be made in the database until after the event,
so your results will be incorrect until that is fixed.
The bottom line: Leave enough time to get to the start at your scheduled time.
