Mountain Biking on Flume Trail at Spooner Lake State Park

This is one of the premier mountain bike rides in the world. It is an exciting singletrack trail 1600 feet above Lake Tahoe, with spectacular views. Start at Spooner Lake and head north on the North Canyon Trail. You will climb about 1100 feet, a portion of which is quite steep, to Marlette Lake dam, and then follow the historic Flume Trail 4.4 miles to Tunnel Creek Road. There are several options available on getting back, from turning around, to descending Tunnel Creek Road to Highway 28 at Hidden Beach, to taking a back country loop back to Spooner Lake.

You may rent mountain bikes at the concession at Spooner Lake (775-749-5349) for $40.00 per day or at Tahoe Bike and Ski (530-546-7437) in King's Beach for $33 (suspension) to $39 (full suspension) per day . The Spooner Lake concession also has a shuttle that runs every hour on the hour back from Hidden Beach to Spooner for $10.00, which includes a cold drink.
