Welcome back to Stanford University for our annual holiday event and social, hosted by the Stanford Orienteering Club. The afternoon will include White, Yellow, and Orange courses, as well as a 60-minute Score-O. In the evening, there will be 50- and 70-minute Night Score-O's, followed by the annual BAOC social, which includes a potluck dinner and awards.

Schedule of Events

1:30-2:30 pm Beginner's clinics (for first-timers)
1:30-5:30 Orienteering skills clinics (see below)
2:00-4:00 Starts for White, Yellow, Orange, and Score-O courses
5:30 Last finish for day courses
6:00 Mass start for Night-O (50- and 70-minute courses)
7:10-10:00 Social (potluck dinner, awards, etc.)
Please bring a dish of food to share at the potluck, and enjoy sampling the contributions of others. Also bring your stories, pictures, and awards related to orienteering and show/bestow them upon someone.

Courses

The White, Yellow, Orange courses are all suitable for beginning or intermediate orienteers. For the Score-O, each control will be worth one point, and each minute (or fraction thereof) will be a one point penalty. The Night-Os will use the same map as the daytime Score-O, with the extra 70-minute controls being numbered in the 100's. So you can decide which course you are on while you are out there. Scoring will be the same as in the afternoon Score-O.

Stats:

        White 2.2 km 9 controls
        Yellow 4.0 km 13 controls
        Orange 4.2 km 14 controls

Clinics

All clinics will be held in or near the Hartley conference room in the Mitchell Earth Sciences building. Check with Registration for the exact location.

1:30-3:30
Course Setter's Workshop
- Evan Custer

A new feature of this workshop will be the use of Condes to help design and layout the courses. This very helpful program allows you to design courses and simultaneously produce control description sheets, then export the courses and clue sheets to OCAD for printing. Other topics will include general principles of course setting, control location, finish and start areas, and I'll go over guidelines for white, yellow, orange, and advanced courses. Participants will be given time to try their own course design. I will present the Condes aspect of the workshop from about 3:00 to 3:30 for those who just want to attend that portion.

1:30-3:30
Intermediate Skills Clinic
- Wyatt Riley

Wyatt Riley has generously offered to take over for the original presenter, Abby Wolfe, who's sick. If you are a Yellow or Orange (or newly advanced) orienteer looking to improve your navigational skills, this clinic is for you. Wyatt will do an informal presentation and discussion of orienteering skills.

3:30-5:30
Meet Directing
- Scott Aster

3:30-5:30
E-punch Operations Training
- Jeff Lanam
