Mid-week practice session

Contact: Gary Carpenter, 925-862-2978

The June 28th practice will be held at Sunol Park (note this is a change from Las Trampas). I will use the McGuire Peaks portion of the map, which we will access from Welch Creek Road. We will start at the same location we used for the advanced starts earlier this year.

I plan to set two courses with streamers. A green-level course will go around the peaks. A brown-level course will be more of an out and back. Please bring your own water; there are no drinking fountains or toilet facilities. I will pre-mark maps for those who e-mail me by Monday night. Please bring $3 to cover the cost of the map.

Parking is limited and either an annual EBRP parking sticker or a daily parking pass (obtained at the main park entrance ) is required to park on Welch Creek Rd. I have an annual pass and can squeeze 5 passengers in my extended cab truck (for a short period of time). We could meet in the town of Sunol at the train station parking lot and then drive out from there. If you have a sticker, are planning to attend, and have extra space for passengers, please post to the Bayonet.

Directions

To get to the start, take I-680 to the Calaveras Road exit near Sunol. Go south on Calaveras Rd. about six miles to Welch Creek Road. Turn left on Welch Creek (there is no right turn) and continue on for 3/4 mile to the turnout at a trailhead. For those who want to carpool, meet at 6PM at the train station parking lot in the town of Sunol. I'll hang there until 6:15 and then head out to the start area.
