On a beautiful day at Montebello, we had a relatively good turnout of about 140, comfortably under the ranger- imposed limit of 200. The map defies setting White and Yellow courses, such that we reused last year's courses, in reverse. Probably because the distance and climb were virtually the same for White and Yellow, we had far more yellow runners than White. And for some reason, there were very few Orange runners. The advanced courses were steep and rugged, but seemed to be enjoyed, or at least written off as a good workout. Below are the complete results.
There were only two finishers on the White course that were under one hour, but they were both well under. Sierra Boyd finished in 35:09, while Denis, Claudia and Sarah (thatıs Sarah Minarik posing as a beginnerıs guide) were only a few minutes behind at 38:47. Gary Kraght cruised the Yellow course in 27:40, followed by Ed Nevill at 38:23. Lief Lingren had no real competition for first on the Orange Course, beating the other five runners by more than 35 minutes at 66:42.
Josh Friederichs edged out Dennis Wildfogel for the Brown honors, 59:55 to 62:20 respectively. Hannu Haarma was the leader on Green with a 74:00 minute finish. Joe Scarborough was second with a time of 80:00. Tapio Karras was first on the Red course at 82:48, followed by Kent Ohlund (85:35), and Dan Green (86:09). James Scarborough finished the Blue course in 103:48, beating out Michihiro Kamijima who finished at 111:55.
There were a number of advanced runners who did not punch their cards sufficiently at one or more controls to prove they were at the correct control. For example, in some cases only two or three pins out of a five or six pin configuration were punched. In this case, all were given the benefit of the doubt. The configurations actually punched (plus, in some cases, some very faint indentations viewed through a magnifying glass) were compatible with the actual punch layout. However, Iım not sure that they would count at an A Meet.
We had a crew of outstanding volunteers for this meet. Many thanks to Ev and Jean Beuerman for their excellent work at the registration table and for their overall help in getting the meet rolling on Sunday. Thanks to Stephanie Maclean and Mike Poulsen for teaching beginner classes. Nancy Lindeman and Peter Rexer helped out by guiding cars in the parking lot. Aileen Abernathy, Hugh Wright, Allison Bennett, Greg Lee, and Matthias Kohler did a great job working the starts; and Stephanie Maclean, Jeff Lanam, and Dan Greene worked the finish. Thanks also to Penny Demoss for scoring and pinning up tags. Bags were picked up by Kelly Wells, Peter Graube, and Ev and Jean Beuerman, who worked so hard on the registration table they didnıt really have time to run a course, so they picked up the controls on their run instead of punching at them.
