This year's Indian Valley event took place on a unseasonably drizzly day in September. The 104 entries and 151 participants may have taken advantage of the cool temperatures to cruise easier around the somewhat steep courses. Below are the complete results.
The Green, Red, and Blue courses each had a long steep leg that led to quite a variety of route choices and some amount of anguish in finding the technically difficult control marker after an 18-contour climb. Regrettably, for the Blue participants the master map contained a wrongly circled feature on control 8, and thus the course will be discarded for ranking purposes.
The experimental Cream course proved unpopular with only two entries. It was won by Evan Custer, still recovering from injury. Our newest Junior hotshot, 9-year-old Rachel Care, blew away everyone on White. A still-injured Gary Kraght won the Yellow. Travis Parker edged out Alex Brunette on the Orange. Ian Ramsay dominated on Brown. Manfred Kopisch was a strong winner on Green. Stefan Carlson, a student from Sweden now attending Stanford, got his first taste of BAOC orienteering in winning the Red course. James Scarborough was no surprise in romping to a win on the tainted Blue course.
The event was made possible by the team effort of a dozen or so people. Rosemary Johnson worked with the two juristictions for permits. Syd Reader. Gary Carpenter and Joan Roos vetted. Tom & Sandy Guldman and Linda Curry managed registration. Judy Koehler gave a series of beginner's clinics and also secured us some great local publicity. Leslie & Sarah Minarik and Rachel Care handled Starts. Evan Custer, Gary Kraght and Penny Demoss worked the finish. Dennis Wildfogel, Sarah Minarik and Rachel Care posted results. Bags were retrieved by Kelly Wells, Steve Greg, Chris Taylor, Mark Blair, Leslie & Sarah Minarik and Louise Madrid. I fear I am forgetting some helpers, and for that I apologize.
